What if we build robots that are remote controlled by humans using tactile feedback? We could have a chassis that can work on mars while being controlled from Earth. Maybe that's one of the idea Elon has with Neuralink. A huge obstacle would be latency I guess
Message delay makes this not feasible from Earth, but it may be a pretty good solution for people living on Mars who need to do some outdoor work (construction, mining, etc..) but don't want to deal with space suits and radiation. Sending a robot in their place sounds pretty good.
On the other hand, if AI technology is good enough, you might not need the human operator except for certain complex tasks. Most of the time you might be able to get away with high-level tasks like "dig a hole here" or "load this equipment onto this rover".
If the tasks look like “we’d like someone to eventually dig out a 3x3 room for an iron smelter across from the mechanic’s workshop,” that’s just Dwarf Fortress minus the booze.
What kind of tactile feedback will you get with a delay of an hour (or however long it takes to communicate over a million miles)? This isn't like flying a drone a scant thousand miles away...
There is no actual war on money-laundering just like there is no war on drugs. In the sense that the people that do the most money-laundering are the same people that control the institutions of the state. Invariably people indicted for money-laundering are small fries that do not have the necessary connections to be immune to indictment.
You are always free to sell the hacks for their """actual""" market value on the black market. Of course you need to launder the money, you might get jailed, you might have to flee the country and so on but at least you get your fair rate.
What is necessary for western society is to import more people that do not want to contribute to society besides accepting welfare. These people must be let to have on average 5-12 children to extract as many welfare benefits as they possibly can. We need more diversity so that no common ground can be found when it comes to wealth inequality. We must distract ourselves from the elephant in the room by fighting small meaningless battles amongst ourselves while the so called elites create their gated community fortresses.
Basically we must do the exact same thing as South Africa, Brazil and many other countries. In this way we will be saved.

Suppose that while you're still around, a brain extension enables you to greatly extend your lifespan. Would you agree to the implant? Totally hypothetical, of course; I myself would not have a ready answer. But for paralyzed and nerve-damaged people, it seems to me adopting this technology would be a no-brainer, so to speak.
I think it'll have to wait until a non-surgical BCI gets decent performance. The study in the article uses implanted electrodes - forced surgery would be a nightmare.
Lootboxes were the beginning of the end for the gaming industry. All the visionaries have moved on from triple A games and now its just by the numbers cookie cutter formula games with different underhanded tactics to extract as much money as possible from victims.
I'd argue this was only the end of the AAA industry, as they all shifted towards monetization, but has catalyzed the growth of indie games — which are more expressive and artistic than ever before.

It stops when folks stop focusing on a singular angle to create arguments in bad faith. There’s a thousand examples of behavior that shouldn’t be tolerated that at some point in the last 200 years, society tolerated. Likewise, there’s a thousand examples of behavior that wasn’t tolerated by society that we by and large think should be tolerated.

I don't think it works this way. When Selam Gano wrote her original hate piece, she concluded that people like Stallman need to be removed, and if necessary, MIT should be burned to the ground. What people? "Jeffrey Epstein. Marvin Minsky. Richard Stallman." The sentence has been passed.
She didn't demand an apology or a change of behavior. She wanted punishment. By putting Minsky next to Epstein, and Stallman next to Minsky, she wanted to create the impression that somehow the terrible monster, the AI pioneer and the founder of the GNU project are same kind of terrible scum that needs to be completely removed to make the world better.

I live in Germany and have 4 children at 29, which seems to be about the average amongst my peer group. My brothers each have 2,5,3 children. We are not from Europe originally however so who knows maybe we haven't been exposed to plastics yet or it might be the fact that we're decently fit physically speaking.
