Some day i'll sit down and port unity to arch linux, but damn i got too much stuff to do already..

It was done: https://github.com/chenxiaolong/Unity-for-Arch

I have not tried it, but Rudra Saraswat's new Unity-like desktop, UnityX, is also available in an Arch version: https://9to5linux.com/you-can-now-install-the-unityx-desktop...

Yeap i saw that one, maybe that could be a good starting point

As for UnityX, i don't think starting from scratch is wise

TBH, I think I agree with you.

There was Unity2D: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Unity2D

The source is still around. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-2d

It was built against a now-obsolete version of Qt though. (To be fair it was discontinued a decade ago.) I think Qt 4, but I am not sure.

I have no clue how much work is involved in changing a Qt4 application so that it uses Qt6.

Unity3D was written as a set of plugins for the Compiz window manager, which itself is now discontinued and abandoned by its developer.

Which suggest that Unity would now need a total rewrite to use Mutter or something... which is a substantial task.

I do not know if this applies to Unity2D.
